The teaching staff who work at our setting are:
Abby Maddison, Manager (Level 6: Qualified Teacher)
Abby is a qualified teacher, having been a Primary School teacher for 15 years, mainly teaching Reception. Her roles have included being Foundation Stage Coordinator, overseeing a Preschool.
Abby is passionate about Little Owls, having been a parent and committee member for 3 years before becoming Manager. She feels Little Owls is a unique setting, where every aspect is considered from the child’s perspective. She loves it so much she joined the teaching team!
Abby is: Lead Designated Person for Child Protection, Special Education Needs Coordinator (SENCo), Equalities Named Coordinator (Enco) Paediatric first aid trained.
Abby is at Little Owls Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Katie York: Deputy Manager
Katie grew up in Haslingfield and moved back to the village almost 10 years ago to raise her family and is now the local Early Years childminder. Two of her children and many of her minded children have attended Little Owls, which has established a long relationship with the pre-school over the years.
Now her children are older, Katie is currently studying a psychology degree (in her spare time) to enrich her interest and knowledge in child behaviour.
Sobia Mir, Early Years Practitioner and Named Deputy (Level 3)
Sobia has worked in childcare since 2005. She is fully qualified, having achieved a Diploma in Childcare and Education, level 3. Sobia has worked in a day nursery, a pre-school and a Primary School, which has given her a wealth of experience in caring for a wide range of children of different ages and in a variety of settings.
Sobia’s previous experiences have equipped her with the skills to provide a safe, clean and friendly environment for children. The children particularly enjoy baking bread with her which is a great source of fun for them.
Sobia is a Paediatric First Aider and a Designated Person for Child Protection. Apart from English, she is fluent in Urdu and Punjabi, also being able to read and write Arabic.
Sobia is in Little Owls Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Caroline Cadman, Early Years Practitioner (Level 3)
Caroline moved to Haslingfield in 2014 and loves the area and its wonderful community spirit. Little Owls is an integral part and Caroline enjoyed being a parent and committee member for several years before transitioning to the teaching staff. Caroline is a Paediatric First Aider. Caroline works at Little Owls Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Charlotte Loynes, Early Years Practitioner (Level 3)
Charlotte has lived in Haslingfield since 2013 and her youngest daughter attended the preschool. She really enjoys being part of the Little Owls team. Outside of Little Owls Charlotte enjoys illustrating and writing children’s stories. Charlotte is a Paediatric First Aider. Charlotte works at Little Owls Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Julie is our Preschool Administrator.
Julie has lived in Haslingfield since October 1993. She has 4 daughters and 4 grandchildren. Her youngest daughter attended Little Owls back in 1995, two of her grandchildren attended Little Owls more recently and hopefully the youngest one will join next year. Julie was a registered childminder in the village with many of her minded children attending Little Owls. Julie has worked in several nurseries and school settings in and around Cambridge.
Julie is in the Little Owls office on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday 9-12, but checks the office emails regularly.
Laura Stevens, Early Years Assistant
Laura’s twin children attended Little Owls and she loved it so much she came back to work with us! Laura is a very involved member of our village community, running to food hub. Laura works at Little Owls on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.
We also have a team of experienced, reliable temporary staff who help out from time to time when necessary.

Heather Duke: Chair
Heather has four young children, two of whom attend Little Owls and love it there. Before choosing to stay at home full-time, Heather worked as a solicitor in London.
Ella Pope: Vice-chair
Ella grew up in Haslingfield and after living elsewhere, moved back in 2020 with her family. She has two children, her youngest is at Little Owls, and her eldest is at Haslingfield School. Ella works part time at Cambridge Assessment.
Sara Jones: Secretary
Sara has a background in event management, most recently working at Cambridge Assessment organising international conferences for teachers and school leaders.
Sara has two young children, one of which attends Little Owls and thoroughly enjoys it.
Aja Hickford: General Member
Aja grew up in Harlton and has always lived in South Cambs, moving with her family to Haslingfield in 2018, where they have found the community is very special. Her youngest son has just left Little Owls to start school. Aja currently works as a Chartered Accountant.
Liz Lightfoot: General Member
Liz is the reception teacher and Early Years leader at Haslingfield primary school where the majority of the children from Little Owls move on to for their primary school education. She has taught at the school for 5 years and works closely with the Pre-school to ensure a smooth transition from Little Owls to school for the children.
