The Team

The teaching staff who work at our setting are:

Kayleigh Kearns, Manager (Level 3)

Kayleigh is our Preschool manager. She has 18 years of experience in child care. Kayleigh is trained to teach yoga to children aged 2-5 years and has completed an accreditation in Hygge in the Early years. Kayleigh is passionate about nature-based and child led learning. She is also the settings Senco and Designated Person for Child Protection. When she is not at Little Owls, Kayleigh enjoys spending time with her family raising her 4 children.

Kayleigh is at Little Owls Monday to Friday.

Katie York, Deputy Manager (Level 6)

Katie is our deputy manager and a level 6 Early Years Teacher (EYTS). She is a Paediatric First Aider and Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Katie has 10 years experience of working within early years, including owning a local childminding business. She has also been on committee as Early Years Support and Treasurer before joining the team as Deputy Manager.

With a passion for inclusion, diversity and SEND, Katie strives for every child to have a sense of belonging at Little Owls. Katie is Level 4 Makaton trained and has a first degree in psychology, using this knowledge to support learning and development with strength-based approach.

Charlotte Loynes, Early Years Practitioner (Level 3)

Charlotte has lived in Haslingfield since 2013 and her youngest daughter attended the preschool. She really enjoys being part of the Little Owls team. Outside of Little Owls Charlotte enjoys illustrating and writing children’s stories. Charlotte is a Paediatric First Aider.

Sobia Mir, Early Years Practitioner and Named Deputy (Level 3)

Sobia has worked in childcare since 2005. She is fully qualified, having achieved a Diploma in Childcare and Education, level 3. Sobia has worked in a day nursery, a pre-school and a Primary School, which has given her a wealth of experience in caring for a wide range of children of different ages and in a variety of settings.

Sobia’s previous experiences have equipped her with the skills to provide a safe, clean and friendly environment for children. The children particularly enjoy baking bread with her which is a great source of fun for them.

Sobia is a Paediatric First Aider and a Designated Person for Child Protection. Apart from English, she is fluent in Urdu and Punjabi, also being able to read and write Arabic.

Caroline Cadman, Early Years Practitioner (Level 3)

Caroline moved to Haslingfield in 2014 and loves the area and its wonderful community spirit. Little Owls is an integral part and Caroline enjoyed being a parent and committee member for several years before transitioning to the teaching staff. Caroline is a Paediatric First Aider.

The Management Committee:

Heather Bailey: Chair

Heather grew up in Haslingfield and attended the playgroup before it wad called Little Owls. She is a Community Nurse and has a son who attends Little Owls.

Sue Barnard: Vice-Chair

Sue moved to Haslingfield in 1981. Prior to starting a family she worked as an Admissions Secretary at Fitzwilliam College, University of Cambridge and started her own business in 1997 which is still operational today.

Sue’s fundraising journey started in 1992 when she ran the Haslingfield Mother and Toddler group and subsequently joined the PTFA as Secretary from 1993-2000. From 2000-2003 Sue was involved as one of the main instigators and project managed the Haslingfield Skate Park.

All of her four children attended ‘Playgroup’ as it was in the 90’s and her grandson now attends Little Owls.

Charlotte Soules: Secretary

Charlotte grew up in Haslingfield and now lives in the village. She even attended the playgroup in the Methodist Church herself when she was little. Her eldest son attends Little Owls and loves it, while her youngest is looking forward to starting soon.

Julie York: Treasurer 

Julie has lived in Haslingfield since 1993. She has 4 daughters and 5 grandchildren, her youngest daughter attended Little Owls back in 1995 and 3 of her grandchildren have attended more recently.  Julie has run her own businesses, in childcare, bookkeeping and vintage china hire, as well as working in several nurseries and school settings in and around Cambridge.  Julie was the administrator for Little Owls before taking up the role of treasurer.

Alison Power: Head of Fundraising 

Alison has a background in recruitment and marketing and has also held a number of voluntary committee roles, including Chair of a local not for profit society. She has a young child who attends Little Owls.

Donna Peck: general member 

Donna is the Deputy Headteacher at Haslingfield Endowed Primary School where the majority of the children from Little Owls move on to for their primary school education. She has taught at the school since January 2013 starting as a teacher in Ash class and progressing to a senior teacher and then a Deputy Headteacher.
